Unlike the black-and-white photograph of M94, the false color image shows dramatic differences between the galaxyΓÇÖs center and its outer regions. Here the bright center is surrounded by an inner disk of old stars and dust lanes; the inner disk is in turn surrounded by a blue ring where intense star formation is occurring.
